Therefore i only play on hard difficulty with expert AI mod on hard/challenging. If you understand the basic principles of HOI4 the AI can only be a significant challenge when you let it cheat hard. Therefore the game mechanics are so dumbed down that airplanes can only be attacked in their operation area, not at their supply airport and not on the way (German WW2 jet pilots would highly approve). There is no Big user Data learning, no adapting, not even coded unpredictiveness.
You can nicely see this as the AI is always doing the exact same for a similar situation.

You basically play the game with/against a random number generator that throws the dice with probabilities for focus trees based on your settings. What HOI4 has is scripted behaviour optimized for historical. HOI4 doesnt have an AI in the actual sense. Not sure what game others are playing but AI is a joke. While not as utterly stupid as at release, the AI in this game is still terrible and only marginally improved via mods. Maybe I am playing a different HOI4 then.
